Wow, I can't believe I haven't posted since June. July is flying by. I'm kind of on a knitting hiatus, though I have some new projects to go buy yarn for next week. I really want to order some vintage intarsia patterns from Yesterknits and learn how to do it.

Stripey sweater is still only 80% done.
Fable tee is about 30% there.

My S&B group is planning a trip to the New York Wool & Sheep Festival in October. We might get a cabin outside of Rhinebeck. If readers in the NYC area want to go, let me know.

Also, is anyone else going to Stitches East in AC in October? I might want to share a room if anyone's interested.

I cast on for the Fable t-shirt from Yarn Co. at Stitch and Bitch on Tuesday. I need a little break from the sweater. I bought bamboo circulars to try, but I'm not sure I like them as much as the adis.

I'm up to the armholes on the stripey sweater, still nervous about the size, but oh well.

Whenever we talk about local yarn stores at S&B, everyone seems to think LYS owners are snotty. I've gotten attitude at different places, sure, but I've also had people go out of their way to help me. It seems like we hold our LYS to a higher standard than other retailers. Maybe it's because knitting is so relaxing, we expect store owners to be blissed out all the time.

My apartment looks like a warzone. There's half assembled furniture, boxes and tools everwhere. I'm afraid to knit there, everthing's so dusty. My poor cats are going nuts, but at least they have lots of new hiding places. I can't wait to get everything done!! I have the day off tomorrow, so we're moving out the last of my roommate's stuff, and hopefully I'll get a chance to mop and clean.

Sweater update: though convinced the stripey sweater will be too big, I'm proceeding. I split the front and back yesterday and got about an hour's worth of work done. If it's too big, I'll rip it out and chalk it up to learning experience.

Greg and I have been moving boxes, building furniture and sweeping up masses of furballs. My apt is a shambles, but I bought new plastic storage crates for my stash, so hopefully it won't get hairy/dusty.

At Bed Bath & Beyond, I spied a Hello Kitty shower cutain. Oh how I long to have my entire apt done in Hello Kitty! If only I had a swingin' bachelorette pad! I was tempted, but realized I couldn't subject Greg to my Sanrio madness. Sigh.

Here's a list of gifts I'd like to knit, some for birthdays, but most for Xmas (if you think June is too early to start thinking about Xmas gifts, you are not uptight enough to read this blog!)

Set of golf club covers for mom - pattern from Knitty
Scarf & hat set for dad
Cool hat for Greg
Vegan fox stole for my friend Jenny O - also from Knitty
Knit toy for Greg's 1 year old nephew, Ethan
Baby blanket from Vogue On the Go book for Greg's new niece or nephew, due in October

See why I have to start planning 6 months in advance?!

My stripey sweater is going to be too big! I think I f-ed up when I chose a different gauge yarn than the pattern required and then didn't adjust the number of stitches. But then again, my gauge swatch turned out ok. What the heck? Frogging the whole thing will not be fun.

I love knitting because I learn a new technique with every project. I hate knitting because to learn anything, you have to mess it up first and pull it all out.

I know, I know, this is nothing new, but let me vent, I'm having a bad day at work.

This weekend I
blew all my money buying soft, silky yarn at the Yarn Co.
knitted a cutie-pie green wool hat to send to Afghans for Afghans
got a wicked stomach thing from eating a seemingly innocent veggie wrap
cleaned out my closets and trunks and sent bags and bags to goodwill because my bfriend is moving in with me (who knew so much stuff could accumulate in a NYC apartment the size of a cat box?)

Finishing a piece is so damn satisfying! Even though I was queasy half the weekend and feverishly tearing through my closet the other half, I still felt compelled to finish the kid's hat I started. Since Greg is out of town, I stayed up late working on it, and now I feel like the most badass knitter in town! Maybe that's why we knit, for the power trip!

Ok, trying out my first file upload. This is me in my slammin' new tank top (my friend Josh and I are about to eat some french toast, yum!).

The tank is from Rebecca summer issue 2003. Cute, right?
